FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PRODUCTS

What makes products at The Tallow House different?
Everything we create begins on our farm or is thoughtfully sourced from partners who share our values. We produce our tallow using traditional slow rendering methods and use milk from our Nigerian Dwarf goats. Our formulations are simple, purposeful, and transparent. We focus on real ingredients that support the skin rather than overwhelm it.

Are your products truly natural?
Yes. We intentionally avoid synthetic fragrances, artificial dyes, harsh preservatives, and unnecessary fillers. If an ingredient does not serve a clear and beneficial purpose, we do not include it.

Do you source locally?
Whenever possible, yes. Supporting our local farming community is important to us. Many of our ingredients are sourced close to home, and we are always evaluating whether we can produce or source something more intentionally.

What is tallow and why is it so beneficial for skin?
Tallow is a nutrient dense fat traditionally used in skincare for generations. Its composition closely resembles the natural oils in human skin, which allows it to absorb beautifully and support the skin barrier. It contains fat soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids that help nourish, protect, and maintain balance.

Will tallow clog pores?
Tallow is highly compatible with human skin and is considered supportive for many skin types. For those prone to breakouts, we often recommend options like Tamanu or Calendula which are especially gentle and calming.

Does it smell like beef?
Properly rendered tallow has a clean and neutral scent. Any fragrance in our products comes from plants from our farm or premium CO2's.

Why does my tallow feel firmer in winter or softer in summer?
Tallow naturally responds to temperature. In cooler months it becomes firmer, and in warmer months it softens. This does not affect quality or performance.

What makes your goat milk special?
We use milk from our Nigerian Dwarf goats, which naturally contains a higher butterfat content than many other breeds. This creates a creamier lather and a more conditioning bar. Goat milk is rich in vitamins, minerals, and natural lactic acid that gently supports smooth, balanced skin.

Does goat milk soap smell strong?
No. Our milk has a naturally mild and slightly sweet aroma. When properly handled and formulated, there is no strong or barn like scent.

Can your cleansing bars be used on the face?
Yes. Our bars are formulated to be gentle and nourishing enough for both face and body. Many customers simplify their routine by using one bar for everything.

How long does a bar last?
With proper drying between uses, most bars last four to six weeks depending on frequency of use. Keeping your bar on a well draining tray will help extend its life.

Are your soaps made the traditional way?
Yes. We use small batch cold process methods with intentional superfatting so nourishing oils remain in the final bar.

How do I use magnesium flakes?
Add one half to one cup to a warm bath and soak for at least twenty minutes. This allows time for relaxation and absorption.

Can I use them as a foot soak?
Absolutely. Add a generous handful to warm water and soak your feet for twenty to thirty minutes.

What is the difference between your lip products?
Our Lip Butter focuses on deep hydration and protection. Our Nature’s Botox Lip formula is crafted with additional ingredients chosen to support the appearance of smoother and fuller looking lips.
